Siyuan Pass, Mountain pass in Datong Township, Taiwan
Siyuan Pass is a mountain pass at 1,948 meters elevation connecting Taichung City and Yilan County via Provincial Highway 7A through the Central Mountain Range. The route crosses an important watershed area and offers views into the Lanyang River Valley.
The pass was previously known as Piyanan Saddle and represents the northernmost boundary of the Tri-Mountain National Scenic Area. It also functions as a watershed dividing the Lanyang and Dajia River systems.
The pass marks a boundary between different ecological regions and allows the movement of plants and animals across Taiwan's protected areas. Visitors can observe how the landscape and its inhabitants change noticeably on each side of the saddle.
Access comes via Provincial Highway 7A, a road frequently shrouded in cloud formations that offer changing views of the valley. Visitors should expect variable weather conditions that affect road visibility and accessibility throughout the day.
The pass receives regular snowfall during winter months while the surrounding area transforms with green maple foliage and cherry blossoms in other seasons. These seasonal shifts dramatically change the landscape's appearance and draw visitors back throughout the year.
