Gongzi Liao Fort

Gongzi Liao Fort is a military fortification in Keelung City, Taiwan, featuring multiple preserved buildings and underground chambers. The site includes barracks, storage areas, gun emplacements, and a lookout point that visitors can explore today.

The fort was built in 1904 by the Imperial Japanese Army after Japan took control of Keelung following the end of Qing rule. This military structure reflected strategic decisions made during the early years of colonial administration on the island.

The fort's name comes from a local hill, and its structures show how military life was organized during colonial times. The layout reveals much about daily routines, communication methods, and how soldiers managed this hilltop outpost.

The site is accessible on foot through well-marked pathways connecting the different sections. Sturdy footwear is recommended since the ground is uneven and stairs connect various levels of the fortification.
