Keelung Fort Commander's Official Residence, Historical residence in Zhongzheng District, Taiwan
The Keelung Fort Commander's Official Residence is a county-level monument in the Zhongzheng District of Keelung, Taiwan. The main building sits on the northern side of the property, with a garden occupying the southern portion.
The building was erected in 1931 during the Japanese administration of Taiwan and first served as housing for employees of a bus company. It was later converted into an official residence for a military commander.
The building shows a Japanese residential style combined with Western construction elements, a mix rarely seen in Taiwan today. Visitors can walk through the original rooms and notice how the layout reflects the living habits of the Japanese colonial period.
The residence sits northeast of Keelung Station and is open to visitors on weekends. It is a good idea to check ahead, as access to certain rooms or the garden may depend on the day or the time of your visit.
The original reception rooms inside the building have been kept in their early form and are open to view. In the evenings, historic lamps light up the grounds, giving a sense of how the residence looked after dark.
