Keelung Fort Colonels' Official Residence, Historic mansion and county monument in Zhongzheng District, Taiwan.
Keelung Fort Colonels' Official Residence is a wooden dwelling with Japanese architectural features built in 1931. The structure consists of a main building on the northern side and a traditional garden on the southern side, with both areas preserved from the original period.
The building was constructed in 1931 as quarters for employees of the Keelung Nagami Bus Company. After 1945, it became a residence for military commanders and retained this purpose afterward.
The residence shows how Japanese and Western building styles came together during the occupation period. Visitors can see today how this blend appears in the rooms and the materials used throughout the building.
The grounds are open to visitors on most weekdays with limited hours, and reduced times on weekends. It is advisable to notify in advance to ensure you can access the site.
Evening lighting highlights the details of the wooden construction and shows how 1930s craftsmanship stands out under modern illumination. This lighting is a modern addition that presents the original architecture in a surprisingly appealing way.
