New Taipei Bridge, Cable-stayed bridge in Sanchong District, Taiwan
New Taipei Bridge is a cable-stayed structure in Sanchong District that spans roughly 1,100 meters across the Erchong Floodway. The main tower rises about 136 meters and creates a distinctive silhouette against the urban horizon.
The structure originally served as the Erchong Floodway Cable-Stayed Bridge before opening to the public in August 2010. Its renaming coincided with New Taipei's administrative transition and reflected the city's infrastructure development.
The main tower's design uses an inverted Y shape that represents the Chinese character for north. This choice reflects how the location is woven into the structure itself, connecting the bridge to local identity and geography.
The bridge serves as a connection point for three major cycling routes: the Dahan Riverside Bikeway, Xindian Riverside Bikeway, and Erchong Circular Cycling Path. Cyclists can use it to link different sections and extend their rides along the waterways.
From certain viewing points, the bridge aligns with Shin Kong Life Tower and Taipei 101 to form an intriguing visual relationship in the skyline. This accidental alignment makes an interesting moment for photographers and curious observers.
