Wanban Bridge, Road bridge in Taipei, Taiwan
Wanban Bridge is a road bridge spanning the Erchong Floodway and Dahan River, connecting Sanchong District with Banqiao District. The structure features dedicated sidewalks and cycling paths that link to surrounding riverside bikeways.
The bridge was completed in 1999 and represents Taiwan's eighth cable-stayed bridge. It holds the distinction of being Asia's longest symmetrical single-pylon cable-stayed bridge.
The main pylon features an inverted Y design that represents the Chinese character for 'north' when viewed from certain angles. This form connects engineering with local symbolic meaning.
The bridge is easy to explore on foot or by bicycle, with clear paths for both types of movement. Visitors should know that early morning or late evening offers the best light for viewing the structure and surrounding areas.
The bridge rises to approximately 135 meters and creates a vertical alignment with two notable city landmarks. This alignment is a visual detail that architecture enthusiasts and city watchers often discover.
