Former Wuqi Police Station and Dormitories, Municipal historic site in Wuqi District, Taichung City, Taiwan
The Former Wuqi Police Station is a 1930s building complex with several brick and wooden structures arranged around a central police building. The site housed police offices and staff living quarters in an integrated layout typical of the Japanese administration period.
The complex was built in 1931 during Japanese rule and shaped local police history. After the 1935 earthquake, structural changes adapted the buildings to new safety standards.
The buildings show how Japanese police systems took root in Taiwan through the kōban neighborhood policing model. Visitors can still see today how law enforcement and residential life were closely woven together.
The site is easily accessible and explored by visitors, with restored buildings offering insight into historical work practices. A local office provides information and guides visitors through the various rooms and their original uses.
The complex preserves a rare example where police offices and residential quarters from the 1930s have remained side by side in their original arrangement. This setup shows how officers lived and worked directly on site.
