Hsinchu Biomedical Science Park

The Hsinchu Biomedical Science Park is a research complex in Zhubei featuring a striking central building with staggered volumes and carefully designed fenestration patterns. The facility spreads across a large site and provides flexible laboratory spaces arranged around a central atrium.

The facility received official approval in 2003 and later opened to support medical device development and research activities. The complex has since focused on providing incubation programs and infrastructure for biotechnology companies.

The research center incorporates the SI2C one-stop shop system, following international models to enhance medical device development and incubation processes.

The complex has distinct areas for different types of research work and clear pathways to help visitors navigate through the site. It helps to allow extra time to explore the various laboratory zones and the central atrium space to understand the overall layout.

The architecture follows a bio-inspired concept where building shapes and window patterns respond to environmental conditions like a living system. This design approach makes the structure an interesting example of biology-informed architecture in a research context.
