石門山, Mountain peak in Longtan District, Taiwan
Shimen Mountain, or 石門山, is a peak in Longtan District, Taiwan, reaching 551 meters above sea level. A loop trail of about 3 kilometers connects the base to the summit, passing through shaded sections with rest spots and basic facilities along the way.
The mountain appears as number 24 on the Xiao Bai Yue list, a selection of 100 popular hiking spots around Taiwan's urban areas. This listing brought it wider attention among city residents looking for an accessible day out near Taoyuan.
The trail passes several small shrines with statues of Guanyin, a figure of compassion in Chinese folk religion. These spots draw hikers who pause there for a moment of stillness during their walk.
Most visitors finish the loop in one to two hours, making it a good option for a half-day outing. Bringing enough water and starting well before dark are the two most practical things to keep in mind.
From the top, there is a clear view over a large reservoir that supplies water to much of the region, something most hikers do not expect to see. The northern outline of Taoyuan also comes into view, framed by the surrounding valleys.
