Chulu Zhèn Dōng Temple

Chulu Zhèn Dōng Temple is a Taoist temple in Taichung featuring multiple buildings designed with traditional Hokkien architecture. Swallowtail roofs and dragon sculptures adorn the structures throughout the complex.

The temple was founded in 1849 by the Tsai family from Quanzhou and suffered damage during the 1935 earthquake. Major repairs following the earthquake led to additional restoration work in the following decades.

The temple serves as the center for the Eighteenth-year Ghost Festival, a celebration still observed by nearby communities today. Visitors can witness how people from across the region gather here to honor this long-standing local tradition.

The temple welcomes visitors regularly and offers guided tours for those interested in learning about its architectural and religious aspects. Comfortable shoes are helpful since the complex contains several connected buildings that you will want to explore.

Inside the temple, intricately carved carp sculptures show fish leaping through the air, paired with a historical plaque from 1864. This marker commemorates assistance provided during an important local incident in the region's past.
