Shevchenko Park, Public garden in Dnipro, Ukraine
Shevchenko Park is a sprawling garden covering 36 hectares with broad pathways, water features, fountains, and a diverse collection of local and exotic trees. The grounds also include chess areas, walking routes, and several cafes positioned throughout.
This place began as private gardens established in 1790 by a Cossack captain, which were later transferred to a nobleman. Over time it transformed into the city's central park and took its current name in the 20th century.
Named after Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko in 1925, this space became a gathering place for concerts and literary events. The Palace of Students at its center reflects how deeply this location is tied to artistic expression and creative life.
The park is easy to explore on foot with plenty of rest spots along the routes. To see the Dnieper River, head to the elevated viewpoints that offer views over the water.
Underground tunnels and maze-like passages lie beneath the park's surface, remnants of its earlier structures. The grounds also nurture rare plant species such as tulip trees and ginkgo specimens that stand out among the more common varieties.
