Turkul, Mountain summit in Carpathian range, Ukraine

Turkul is a mountain peak in the Carpathian range located at the border between Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast and Zakarpattia Oblast. The summit reaches 1933 meters and features rocky slopes along with open alpine meadows.

The mountain territory passed through Hungarian, Czechoslovak, and Soviet control during the 20th century before becoming part of independent Ukraine. These shifts in power left layers of influence across the border region.

Local communities around the mountain include Ukrainians, Rusyns, Hungarians, and Romanians, and their traditions shape the character of villages and seasonal celebrations in the region.

The hiking routes to the summit are passable from spring through autumn and require proper mountain gear and attention to weather conditions. Visitors should prepare for changeable high-altitude conditions and check local weather forecasts before heading out.

The summit area provides access to Nesamovyte Lake, which sits at 1750 meters and ranks among the highest lakes in the Carpathian range. This alpine body of water is a notable discovery for hikers reaching this elevation.
