Святогірський державний історико-архітектурний заповідник

The Sviatohirsk State Historical and Architectural Reserve stretches across gentle hills with chalk mountains along the Siverskyi Donets River and contains diverse forests and green spaces. The grounds include several zones with different ecosystems and various plant and animal species.

The reserve was established in 1980 to protect landscapes and archaeological sites spanning thousands of years of history. The Sviatohirsk Lavra monastery, which later received official recognition as a monument, was long the spiritual center of the region.

The Sviatohirsk Lavra monastery sits at the heart of this place and draws visitors interested in religious architecture and spiritual practice. Monks and pilgrims shape daily life here, especially during religious celebrations and processions.

The grounds are large and require time to explore; visitors should wear comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. There are marked trails through the natural zones, but check conditions and accessibility beforehand.

Certain pine trees here are relics from before the last ice age and rank among the oldest plant species in the region. These rare trees serve as a living record of ancient ecosystems and draw scientists and nature enthusiasts alike.
