Hora Karatau, Mountain summit in Simferopol district, Ukraine.
Hora Karatau is a mountain summit within the Karabi-Yayla ridge that rises to 1220 meters with distinctive northern slopes. A small freshwater lake called Karatau-gol sits nestled on these slopes, surrounded by old forest growth.
The summit gained national protection status in 1960 and became a state-level natural monument in 1981. This official recognition underscores the site's importance for regional conservation.
Local forestry services maintain this natural monument, which contains beech trees reaching ages between 100 and 200 years.
The mountain sits near Generalskoe village and Alushta city, making it accessible from nearby towns. The Alushta State Forestry manages the site and maintains trails and conditions for visitors.
The northern slopes shelter one of the largest beech forest concentrations in Karabi-Yayla, with trees reaching 15 to 18 meters in height. These ancient trees span 100 to 200 years of growth and form a rare ecological feature.
