Lawrence County, Administrative division in southern Ohio, United States

Lawrence County spans 457 square miles along the Ohio River, containing both urban centers and farmland across its varied terrain.

The county formed in 1817 bears the name of naval officer James Lawrence and established Ironton as its administrative center in 1851.

The Memorial Day Parade in Ironton, starting in 1868, continues as an annual tradition drawing participants from across the region.

The county seat of Ironton provides governmental services, medical facilities, and educational institutions for the 58,240 residents of Lawrence County.

During the 19th century, iron manufactured in Ironton supplied materials for the USS Monitor, the first ironclad ship of the United States.
