Robbins Reef Light, Maritime lighthouse in Bayonne, United States.
The cast iron lighthouse stands 14 meters tall on a granite foundation at the entrance of Kill van Kull waterway near Staten Island.
The original 1839 granite structure was replaced in 1883 with the current lighthouse, marking dangerous underwater rocks in New York Bay's shipping channel.
Kate Walker served as lighthouse keeper from 1890 to 1919, maintaining the beacon and rescuing fifty people while raising her children in extreme isolation.
The lighthouse interior remains closed while Noble Maritime Collection continues restoration work to transform it into a future museum and accommodation.
The name derives from Dutch settlers who observed seals, known as robyns, gathering on the sandbank during low tide periods.
