Somerset County

Somerset County is an administrative county in western Maine featuring mountainous terrain with numerous lakes and rivers surrounded by forests of spruce, fir, maple, and birch. The region encompasses several communities spread across a wide area of rural landscape.

The county was established in 1809 when carved out from Kennebec County and named after Somerset County in England. This creation reflected the growing need to organize the region's administration as settlement expanded.
