Sugarloaf Mountain, Ski mountain in Carrabassett Valley, Maine, US.
Sugarloaf Mountain is a ski resort in Carrabassett Valley with an elevation of 4,237 feet and offers 176 trails and glades spread across six distinct zones. The resort operates 15 lifts across approximately 1,200 accessible acres of terrain.
The Appalachian Trail originally crossed directly over the summit but was later relocated to the western side of the mountain. Today, a side trail of about 1 kilometer connects the original route to the relocated path.
The mountain hosts winter events throughout the season, including an annual Reggae festival that combines music with snow sports. These gatherings draw people who want to experience both activities in one place.
The skiing season runs from November through early May, with conditions varying based on snowfall and temperature changes. The resort is accessible year-round and offers lodging and dining facilities on the property.
The resort offers the only lift-serviced skiing above the treeline in the eastern United States with a vertical drop of approximately 860 meters. This high elevation often means better snow conditions even when lower areas receive less snowfall.
