Orgonon, Observatory and biographical museum in Rangeley, Maine, US
Orgonon is a facility in Rangeley, Maine, centered around a two-story building made from local fieldstone with a flat roof, containing laboratories, living areas, and offices. A separate structure on the wooded grounds now serves as a conference center and houses exhibits about an Austrian physician's work.
A physician from Vienna founded the property in the 1940s to continue his research after leaving Europe. He worked here until his death in 1957, and the estate later became a museum.
The name comes from a term the former resident invented for what he believed was a form of life energy. Visitors today come to learn about a physician whose ideas about the body and mind challenged conventional medicine during his lifetime.
The site opens during warmer months when guided visits are available and the buildings are accessible. Those planning to walk the grounds should wear sturdy footwear, as paths wind through wooded areas.
A small cabin on the property is still available for rent, offering visitors the chance to stay in a building used since the early days of the site. The original laboratory building was later converted to accommodate events and gatherings.
