Broad Ripple Park Carousel, Historic carousel at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis, United States.
The Broad Ripple Park Carousel is a restored ride with 42 hand-carved wooden animals displayed at a museum in Indianapolis. Created by the Dentzel Carousel Company, the installation features animals such as horses, goats, giraffes, deer, a lion, and a tiger, accompanied by music from a Wurlitzer organ.
The carousel operated in White City Amusement Park from 1917 until 1956, when the structure collapsed during operation. The carved animals survived intact and were later recovered and restored for museum display.
The carousel animals reflect how early amusement parks brought families together for entertainment and joy. Visitors can observe the care taken in each hand-carved figure today.
The carousel area is located within the museum and operates during regular visiting hours with the organ music playing throughout the day. Guests of all ages can experience the ride and the ambiance created by the period instrument.
This carousel is one of only three surviving examples where an entire original Dentzel animal collection has been preserved in its entirety. Its significance was recognized when it earned National Historic Landmark designation in 1987.
