Lambertville, Administrative city in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States.
Lambertville is a city that sits along the Delaware River, featuring blocks of preserved buildings dating from the 1700s and 1800s. The downtown core preserves brick facades, historical street layouts, and residential neighborhoods that reflect the area's earlier development.
The settlement began as Coryell's Ferry before being renamed in honor of John Lambert, who established the post office in the early 1800s. The location on the Delaware River made it a center for commerce and transportation throughout the 19th century.
Artists and craftspeople have made this riverside community their home, filling galleries, antique shops, and studios throughout the downtown area. The creative presence transforms the historic streetscape into a living space where local makers display and sell their work.
The downtown area is compact and easy to walk, with shops, restaurants, and galleries concentrated along a few blocks near the river. Visitors should wear sturdy walking shoes since the sidewalks and streets have uneven surfaces and original cobblestones.
The Delaware and Raritan Canal runs through the city, a remnant of when water transport was the main way goods moved through the region. Today the canal towpath is a walking route where visitors can see how the waterway shaped the settlement's earlier growth.
