Mansfield is a small borough in Tioga County in northwestern Pennsylvania with quiet streets lined with old homes, small shops, and historic buildings. The town centers on its traditional downtown area and features structures such as the Gitchell House from 1841 and Mansfield University, founded in 1857, which retains much of its original architecture.
The town was founded in 1804 by Asa Mann, who planned the land as Mann's Field and built a hotel, store, and sawmill. In 1857, Mansfield was officially incorporated as a borough and that same year the Classical Seminary was established, which grew into Mansfield University and became a major educational hub for the region.
