Cleveland Stadium, Sports stadium in Cleveland, United States
Cleveland Stadium was a sports venue in Cleveland, Ohio, built with an aluminum structure and seating for 78,000 spectators during baseball and football games. The facility spread across a large lakefront site and offered views of the surrounding area through its open construction.
The venue opened in July 1931 following a public initiative that required 2.5 million dollars in funding through voter approval. After 65 years of operation, demolition took place in 1996, ending a long era of sports in Cleveland.
The east end bleachers became a gathering point for Browns supporters who expressed their fan community through barking sounds. This tradition shaped game days for years and created a special atmosphere in the venue that became known far beyond Cleveland.
The former venue site stands near the Great Lakes Science Center and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with direct connection from downtown. Visitors can explore the area on foot and reach other lakefront attractions from there.
After demolition in 1996, materials from the venue were transported to Lake Erie and repurposed as artificial reefs. These reefs now serve as habitat for fish and other aquatic organisms, supporting ecological balance in the lake.
