Breed's Hill

Breed's Hill is a summit in Charlestown topped by a tall granite obelisk monument that stands roughly 67 meters high. The site overlooks Boston Harbor and the surrounding cityscape from its elevated position.

A major Revolutionary War battle took place here in 1775 when colonial forces clashed with British troops on the hillside. This encounter demonstrated that the colonists could stand against the British military.

The monument serves as a gathering place where visitors reflect on the colonial struggle for independence and understand how this battle shaped American identity. The site remains central to how Boston residents and travelers remember the Revolutionary War.

A stairway inside the monument leads to an observation deck where visitors can see across the city and harbor below. The location is accessible on foot and situated near downtown Boston's main areas.

The hill itself is a drumlin, a landform shaped by moving glaciers during the last ice age thousands of years before the battle occurred. Few visitors realize they are walking on this glacial remnant.
