Atlantic Avenue – Barclays Center, Transit hub at Atlantic Avenue and Flatbush Avenue intersection, Brooklyn, United States
Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center station is a major transit hub where Atlantic Avenue and Flatbush Avenue intersect in Brooklyn. The complex spans multiple underground levels with platforms serving various subway lines connected by pedestrian passages.
The station first began operation with Eastern Parkway platforms in 1908 during the early expansion of the subway system. Additional BMT platforms opened about 7 years later, significantly expanding the facility and connecting new routes.
The Flemish Renaissance control house creates a distinctive streetscape presence with its early 1900s design character. Visitors immediately notice this architectural feature as they arrive at street level.
The station provides access to 10 different lines and features multiple elevators connecting street level to all platforms throughout the complex. Visitors should allow extra time when navigating between different sections of the facility.
The station was built on a site with deep roots in transportation infrastructure, showing construction phases from different railway companies. This layered design reveals how the transit system evolved in New York over multiple decades.
