The Altamont Hotel presents a T-shaped brick structure with a raised basement and features a Victorian veranda that stretches around the building.
Built in 1897 by contractor Robert H. Dickerson, the hotel replaced a previous establishment that burned down at the same location.
Four generations of women managed this establishment, maintaining its role as a central accommodation for courthouse officials and business travelers.
Located at 110 Fayette Avenue, the hotel stands on a 1.3-acre property across from the courthouse in the center of Fayetteville.
The third floor contained a special room known as the hung jury room, where courthouse juries stayed during extended deliberations.
