Asa Packer Mansion, Historic house museum in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania.

The Asa Packer Mansion is a three-story residence with 18 rooms featuring Italian architectural style, including a red-ribbed tin roof and a central cupola. The building's cast iron structural frame supports walls filled with period furnishings and family belongings from the 19th century.

The mansion was built in 1861 for railroad magnate Asa Packer and designed by architect Samuel Sloan in Italian style. It represents the wealth and ambition of the industrial era when powerful businessmen shaped the landscape and economy of Pennsylvania.

The mansion displays the furnishings and personal objects of the Packer family, showing how wealthy industrial leaders lived in the 19th century. Walking through the rooms reveals the daily habits and tastes of people who shaped the region's economy.

Guided tours explain the building's architecture and family history as visitors walk through the rooms. Wear comfortable shoes since you'll be moving through multiple levels and many rooms to see everything.

The residence remained closed for decades after the death of Mary Packer Cummings until a local organization opened it to the public. This long period sealed away helped preserve the interior in its original condition.
