The Asa Packer Mansion spans three stories with 18 rooms, featuring a red-ribbed tin roof, central cupola, and cast iron structural frame.
Built in 1861 for railroad magnate Asa Packer at a cost of $14,000, the mansion was designed by architect Samuel Sloan in the Italianate style.
The mansion contains original Victorian furnishings and personal belongings of the Packer family, displaying the lifestyle of 19th-century industrial leaders.
The museum operates daily tours from Memorial Day through October 31st, with guided visits explaining the architectural features and family history.
The mansion remained sealed for 44 years after Mary Packer Cummings's death until the Jim Thorpe Lions Club initiated public tours in 1956.
