The Atwater Congregational Church features Federal and Greek Revival architectural elements with symmetrical shapes and classical columns rising over 100 feet tall.
Constructed in 1841 following the designs of Federal and Greek Revival architecture, the church received National Register of Historic Places designation in February 1973.
The church serves as a central gathering place for religious services, community meetings, and ceremonies since its establishment with an initial group of 11 members.
Electric lighting replaced the original 16 oil lamps in 1920, and subsequent renovations enhanced the building's functionality while preserving its historical elements.
The interior underwent modifications in 1896 when structural issues led to the replacement of the original dome with a flat ceiling, later restored in 1944.
