Atwell Mill Grove, Giant sequoia grove in Sequoia National Park, California, US.

Atwell Mill Grove is a stand of giant sequoias located in the Sierra Nevada mountains within Sequoia National Park at an elevation where alpine conditions influence the forest. The protected area spans a valley along a river and contains dozens of these enormous trees scattered among other forest species.

A sawmill operated in the area during the late 1800s, cutting trees from the grove before the region became protected land within the national park. The end of logging marked a turning point when the area transitioned to conservation and preservation.

The grove shows visitors how giant sequoias have shaped the understanding of forest protection in America, serving as a symbol of conservation efforts that began over a century ago. Walking among them offers insight into why people valued preserving these trees for future generations.

The grove is reached by driving through winding mountain roads that branch from the main state highway serving the park area. Winter weather can make access difficult, and visitors should plan visits during warmer months when roads are fully passable.

Two remarkable trees stand out here: one reaches nearly 300 feet tall, and another has a single branch measuring over 12 feet across. These dimensions make them among the most unusual specimens in the region.
