Coast Guard Station Sturgeon Bay, Coast Guard station in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, United States.
Coast Guard Station Sturgeon Bay is a military installation on the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal that coordinates emergency response and patrol activities across western Lake Michigan and Green Bay. The facility serves as the operational base for personnel stationed there year-round.
The station was established in 1886 when the Maxted & Newcomb construction company built the facility and William Nequette became its first keeper. This marked the beginning of over a century of continuous service at this location.
This station maintains maritime traditions through continuous service since 1902, conducting search missions, law enforcement patrols, and winter ice rescue operations.
The station sits directly on the canal and is relatively easy to locate from the main waterway. Public viewing areas may be limited due to security restrictions, but the general location is visible from nearby roads and water routes.
The station operates a seasonal outpost on Washington Island located roughly 50 miles (80 kilometers) to the north, accessible only by water. This remote satellite facility extends rescue and patrol coverage to the more northern waters of the region.
