Sherwood Point Light
Sherwood Point Light, Lighthouse and National Historic Place in Door County, United States.
The Sherwood Point Light stands 37 feet tall on a limestone bluff at the western entrance of Sturgeon Bay in Wisconsin.
Congress allocated $12,000 in 1881 to construct this brick lighthouse, which began operations in 1883 under keeper Henry Stanley's supervision.
The lighthouse contains detailed records of maritime operations, keeper activities, and social events, including the 1889 wedding of assistant keeper William Cochems.
The structure maintains an active navigation light with a range of 15 nautical miles, guiding vessels through the entrance of Sturgeon Bay.
In 1983, Sherwood Point Light earned distinction as the final manned lighthouse operating within the Great Lakes system.
