Coolidge Reservation, Nature reserve in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts, US.

Coolidge Reservation is a nature reserve in Manchester-by-the-Sea with salt marshes, rocky shorelines, and forested areas along the Atlantic coast. The different habitats provide homes for coastal birds and other wildlife in their natural state.

The land belonged to T. Jefferson Coolidge, great-grandson of Thomas Jefferson, who built a Georgian mansion called Marble Palace in 1902. The building was demolished in 1958, but its legacy continues to shape the history of this coastal place.

The Trustees of Reservations maintain this space as part of their mission to protect Massachusetts natural spaces for public enjoyment and education.

The reserve is open year-round from sunrise to sunset with marked trails and parking available at Clarke Road. Access is straightforward and routes are well-marked for visitors of any experience level.

Ocean Lawn was the site of Marble Palace until 1958 and today offers sweeping views across Massachusetts Bay. This open lawn shows where the Georgian mansion once stood before it completely disappeared.
