Doubletop Mountain

Doubletop Mountain is a two-peaked summit in Baxter State Park featuring a rocky ridge that connects its north and south peaks. The terrain here rises steeply with exposed rock faces and mountain vegetation that becomes sparser as you climb higher.

The area became protected when Baxter State Park was established in 1931 as a wilderness preserve. This created public access to mountain hiking and exploration in what was previously remote forestland.

The mountain serves as a destination for naturalists and outdoor enthusiasts who document wildlife encounters and contribute to environmental education programs.

The hike to this summit is long and demanding, starting from Nesowadnehunk Field Campground with a trail that takes most of a full day. Visitors should start early, wear sturdy boots, and bring plenty of water and snacks for the journey.

A commemorative marker near the north peak marks a place of personal significance from 1926. This quiet memorial reminds hikers that the mountain holds meaning beyond its physical landscape.
