Drake Hotel, Art Deco hotel at Park Avenue and 56th Street, Manhattan, United States
Drake Hotel was an Art Deco building at 440 Park Avenue in Manhattan with 21 floors and around 500 rooms. The property contained multiple restaurants, lounges, shops, and office spaces designed in the style of that era.
Built in 1926 by developers Bing & Bing, the hotel shaped the neighborhood for 80 years. In 2006 it was sold and subsequently demolished to make way for modern development.
The Drake Room restaurant established in 1945 featured pianist Cy Walter, while Shepheard's nightclub introduced the first discotheque in New York.
The building was centrally located on Park Avenue with good access to subway stations and major attractions. Guests could easily reach nearby business districts and dining options from this central position.
In 1973, the British rock band Led Zeppelin experienced a significant theft during their stay at the hotel. The incident became widely known at the time and remains part of the property's historical record.
