E.A. Vaughn Wildlife Management Area, Nature reserve in Worcester County, Maryland, US.
E.A. Vaughn Wildlife Management Area is a nature reserve covering about 2,769 acres with agricultural fields, salt marshes, and riparian zones along the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay. The territory is divided into three main sections - North Tract, Central Tract, and South Tract - connected by unmarked trails.
From 1940 to 1960, the area operated as a research game farm where scientists studied plant arrangements and raised multiple pheasant species for release. This period of scientific work shaped the development of the management area as it exists today.
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources manages this territory to showcase the traditional bayside environments that characterize Worcester County. Visitors encounter the landscapes and habitats that have long defined life along the water in this region.
Visitors should bring waterproof boots since trails pass through wet areas and are not maintained throughout. Exploring during dry weather makes navigation easier and safer.
The area offers three kayak routes that connect Taylor's Landing to George Island Landing through different water pathways. These water-based tours let visitors explore the landscape from a different vantage point.
