Abra Solar, Kinetic sculpture in Plaza Venezuela, Caracas, Venezuela.
This steel and aluminum structure rises 42 meters into the sky with 33 rotating aluminum blades arranged in a helical formation.
Created by Venezuelan artist Alejandro Otero, the sculpture first appeared at the 1982 Venice Biennale before its installation in Caracas in 1983.
The sculpture incorporates movement and environmental interaction through its rotating blades, representing the integration of art with natural elements.
Located at coordinates 10°29'51.5"N and 66°53'13.3"W, the monument underwent complete restoration in 2007 with new blades and LED illumination.
The structure contains 33 aluminum components called 'butterflies' that rotate with wind currents, creating a dynamic interplay of light and motion.
