Bắc Kạn

Bắc Kạn is a mountainous province in northeastern Vietnam, covering around 4,859 square kilometers of forested terrain shaped by limestone formations and river systems. Ba Be Lake lies within its borders and serves as a major natural feature.

The province played a key role in resistance against French colonial rule during the 1940s. This struggle culminated in its liberation in 1949.

Eight ethnic groups shape daily life here, with the Tay and Hmong communities maintaining their craft traditions and local customs. You can visit their villages and markets to see how these traditions continue in everyday activities.

The province connects to Hanoi via National Road 3, with daily bus services and a three-hour journey time. The dry season offers the best conditions for travel and exploring the terrain.

Around 95 percent of the province is covered in forest, making it one of Vietnam's most heavily forested regions. This extensive woodland provides habitats for rare wildlife and dense river networks.
