Phu Bai International Airport, airport in Vietnam
Phu Bai International Airport is a modern terminal building located southeast of Hue city, roughly 15 kilometers from the center. The two-story structure features an arrivals floor with baggage claim and customs, while the upper level handles departures with check-in counters, waiting areas, and retail shops.
The airport began handling international traffic in 2002 and received official international flight status in 2005 with its first charter from Austria. In 2007, Changi Airports International signed an agreement to develop the facility and boost tourism in the region.
The name 'Phu Bai' comes from the local district. The terminal reflects modern Vietnamese design with clean spaces and a straightforward layout that visitors can navigate easily without confusion.
The terminal is located about 15 kilometers southeast of central Hue and is easily reached by taxi, bus, or ride-sharing apps. The ride takes about 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic, with taxi fares ranging from 8 to 12 dollars.
The airport terminal was completed around 2021 and can handle up to 5 million passengers yearly, making it larger than many visitors expect for such a small city. The runway stretches 2.700 meters and has undergone several maintenance upgrades, including closures when passengers had to reroute through nearby Da Nang Airport.
