Cat Bi International Airport, airport
Cat Bi International Airport is an airport in Haiphong, located about 8 kilometers southeast of the city center, with separate terminals for domestic and international flights. The facility handles large aircraft including the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787, and serves daily connections to Vietnamese cities and foreign destinations.
The airport was originally established as a military base by the French Air Force during the first Indochina War. It was later used by the United States as a strategic airbase during the Vietnam War.
The name Cat Bi comes from Vietnamese and relates to the airport's location in the region. Inside the terminal, visitors notice how the space brings together people from different places and backgrounds as they begin their journeys.
The airport lies just 8 kilometers from Haiphong city center and is easily reached by taxi or motorcycle taxi. The journey takes roughly 15 to 20 minutes depending on traffic, with helpful staff available to guide travelers through the process.
The airport was completely rebuilt after the war years and received a new runway approximately 3,050 meters long. This modernization allows it to handle large international aircraft and operate at night thanks to improved navigation systems.
