Dragon River Bridge, Steel bridge in Da Nang, Vietnam
Dragon River Bridge is a 666-meter steel bridge crossing the Han River in Da Nang with six traffic lanes and separate paths for pedestrians and cyclists. The structure forms an arc whose shape resembles a dragon winding over the water.
Work on this crossing over the Han River began in July 2009 and finished in March 2013 to mark 38 years since the liberation of Da Nang. The bridge was part of a plan to link the city with the airport and eastern districts.
The structure takes the form of a dragon, which in Vietnamese belief watches over life and brings fortune to those who cross beneath it. At night, LED lights trace the curves of the creature from one riverbank to the other.
The bridge connects Da Nang International Airport to the center through the Le Dinh Duong junction and is one of the fastest routes through the city. Visitors can cross on foot or by bicycle, with dedicated paths separated from car traffic.
Every Saturday and Sunday at 9 PM, the dragon head releases water and fire while the entire structure lights up in colors. Many visitors come to the riverbanks at this time to watch the show from nearby.
