Han River Bridge, Swing bridge in Da Nang, Vietnam
The Han River Bridge is a concrete swing bridge over the Han River in Da Nang, connecting the eastern and western districts of the city along a span of nearly 488 meters. The structure features two large arches and reaches a clearance height of about 25 meters above the water level.
The bridge was designed and built by Vietnamese engineers between 1997 and 2000, representing an important step for the local construction industry at that time. It was the first such structure in the country entirely planned and executed by domestic professionals.
The name reflects its direct location on the river, and the walkways serve residents as a place to stroll, often in the cooler evening hours. Street vendors sell drinks and snacks there, while families enjoy the view of the water.
Vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians share the roadway, with sidewalks located along the edges. The passage below is wide enough for ships and boats that travel the river.
The bridge rotates 90 degrees on its axis during certain evenings, allowing larger ships to pass through. This rotation turns the crossing into a technical spectacle that attracts residents and visitors alike.
