Kaminahu

Kaminahu is an ancient settlement in Yemen's Al-Jawf region, with remains spread across a large area at 1100 meters elevation. The site preserves foundations and architectural elements from South Arabian civilization that show the organized layout of this former city.

The city came under the control of Saba around 715 BCE when the ruler Yitha'amar Watar I conquered it and nearby territories. This conquest marked a shift in political power across the region.

The site displays inscriptions in South Arabian script that reveal how people communicated and organized their society in ancient times. These carved texts show the daily life and beliefs of the inhabitants who lived here.

The site sits in a remote highland area, so a visit requires advance planning and proper preparation. Sturdy footwear and water are essential, as the terrain is uneven and exposure is high.

The site sits between two other ancient settlements, forming a triangle that reflects the urban design patterns of old Arabia. This positioning reveals how communities were strategically distributed across the landscape to maintain connections.
