Aiwan-e-Sadr

Aiwan-e-Sadr is the presidential residence in Islamabad, located on Constitution Avenue with four main halls named after Pakistan's founding fathers. The complex includes staff residences, horse stables, and a small zoo housing native species like chinkara deer and various birds.

Construction of this presidential palace began in 1970 and was completed after 11 years. President Ghulam Ishaq Khan was its first resident when it opened.

The building blends modern architectural forms with traditional Pakistani design through its Mughal-inspired gardens and ceremonial halls. The spaces show how contemporary style and historical elements work together in the complex's layout.

Access is primarily limited to designated visiting days since this is an active government seat. Visitors should arrange ahead and dress formally to meet entry requirements.

In 2022, this building became the first presidential residence worldwide to receive ISO 50001 certification for its complete shift to renewable energy sources. This achievement demonstrates a major commitment to sustainable energy practices at the highest political level.
