Lavínová veža, Mountain summit in Poprad District, Slovakia
Lavínová veža is a mountain summit at approximately 2600 meters elevation located on the northern ridge of Gerlachovský štít in the High Tatras. The peak sits in an exposed position along the ridgeline with steep drops on multiple sides.
The first documented ascent reached the summit in 1904 when three climbers made the successful climb. About a decade before, surveying teams had placed measuring instruments on the peak.
The summit's name comes from avalanches that regularly sweep down the slopes facing Velická Valley. This natural hazard has shaped how local climbers view and approach the mountain.
Climbers must be accompanied by certified mountain guides because of technical climbing difficulties and rock scrambling required to reach the summit. Weather changes rapidly throughout the year, making proper equipment and physical preparation essential.
Surveyors placed measuring equipment on the peak around 1895, marking one of the earliest signs of human activity at this remote location. This early technical work shows how important the mountain was for mapping the High Tatras region.
