Dashti-Jum Nature Reserve, Nature reserve in Shamsiddin Shohin District, Tajikistan.
Dashti-Jum is a nature reserve in the mountains of Shamsiddin Shohin District that stretches from the Hazrati Shoh mountain range to the Panj River. The terrain sits between 1,300 and 2,500 meters in elevation and displays varied landscape forms across this alpine region.
The area was first established as a protected space in 1972 but was later redefined in 1983 with a new structure for nature conservation. This change reflected growing recognition of the need to safeguard this mountainous landscape.
The reserve holds importance for nearby communities who practice sustainable methods to maintain the natural environment and its resources. Local people have a long-standing relationship with the land that remains visible in how they interact with the area today.
The reserve sits roughly 40 kilometers from Kulob city, making it a fairly short drive from there. Reaching it from the capital Dushanbe is possible with local transportation options, though it takes considerably longer.
The area provides critical habitat for the Central Asian ibex, a species whose numbers are declining across the region. Additionally, three mountain rivers flow through the reserve and create different habitats with their own plant communities.
