Sari-Khosor Nature Park, Nature park in Baljuvon District, Tajikistan.
Sari-Khosor Nature Park is a protected mountain forest area located between Dushanbe and the Pamirs, covering around 3800 hectares. Walnut and wild fruit trees form the main vegetation, with rivers and valleys cutting through the woodland.
The park was established in 2003 through an official government decree to protect this mountain forest region. Creating this protected zone reflected Tajikistan's commitment to safeguarding its natural resources for the long term.
The villages scattered through the valley depend on the forests for their livelihood and follow seasonal patterns of gathering and farming. People here have adapted their daily routines to work with the natural rhythms of the mountain landscape.
River crossings can be difficult after heavy rain, so checking water conditions beforehand is important. Some knowledge of Tajik or Russian helps with getting around and talking to local people in the villages.
A 50-meter waterfall near Mulokoni village shifts in appearance as sunlight hits the falling water throughout the day. The changing angle of the sun creates different color patterns in the mist and spray.
