Volyntsivs'ke Vodoskhovyshche, Stausee in der Ukraine
Volyntsivs'ke Vodoskhovyshche is an artificial water reservoir in Donetsk Oblast designed to supply drinking water to nearby cities and irrigate farmland. The basin once extended across several square kilometers and received water from the Bulavinka River.
The reservoir was constructed in 1936 to supply drinking water to Yenakiieve and neighboring settlements, becoming central to the region's water system. After World War II it was restored and expanded to serve irrigation needs and support water supply for over one million people across the Donbas region.
The basin has largely dried up following recent conflict and access roads are damaged or difficult to reach. Visitors should be aware that infrastructure in the area is impaired and no facilities are available on site.
The basin was also known as Yenakiieve Sea and was the region's largest freshwater reservoir, fed by water from multiple underground sources. The structure was an earth embankment approximately 180 meters long and 6 meters wide, an engineering feature typical of Soviet-era water storage.
