Albany County, Administrative county in eastern New York, United States

Albany County extends across 533 square miles of land in east-central New York, where the Mohawk River joins the Hudson River near the state capital.

The county was established in 1683 and named after the Duke of York's Scottish title, replacing the Dutch settlement previously known as Beverwyck.

The region contains twelve colleges and universities, including the State University of New York at Albany, serving over 100,000 students in the Capital Region.

Residents access two state parks, Thompson's Lake and John Boyd Thacher, plus the Mohawk-Hudson Bike-Hike Trail connecting Albany to Cohoes and Schenectady County.

The territory preserves six historical mansions from colonial times, including Schuyler Mansion, Historic Cherry Hill, Ten Broeck Mansion, and Crailo State Historic Site.
