Dollywood, Family amusement park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, US.
Dollywood is a theme park in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, spreading over 160 acres with more than 50 rides and roller coasters, plus several theaters and restaurants. The grounds are organized into different themed sections, ranging from nostalgic village streets to modern thrill zones.
A small attraction opened in 1961 and changed ownership several times before becoming Dollywood in the 1980s with the involvement of country music star Dolly Parton. Since then, the park has grown steadily, adding new sections and rides over the decades.
The park takes its name from Dolly Parton, who grew up in these mountains and whose music plays throughout the grounds during performances. Visitors can find handcrafted souvenirs from the region in the shops, while bluegrass and gospel concerts take place on several stages.
The park app displays real-time wait times, show schedules, dining spots, and interactive maps of the grounds. Comfortable shoes and clothing for changing mountain weather are recommended, as the terrain includes some slopes.
Lightning Rod, opened in 2016, combines wooden and steel construction and is the first launched wooden roller coaster in North America. Its acceleration propels the cars to top speed within seconds before they race through winding sections.
