100 East Wisconsin, Postmodern skyscraper in Downtown Milwaukee, United States.
100 East Wisconsin is a 37-story office tower in downtown Milwaukee, clad in buff-colored Texas limestone with gold ornamental details on its exterior. The facade is divided into three horizontal sections, a feature of postmodern design that gives the building a structured, classical look.
The tower was completed in 1989 on the site of the former Pabst Building, which was demolished in 1980. Its construction was part of a broader effort to redevelop the area along the Milwaukee River during the 1980s.
The arcaded base and cupola at the top of the building echo the European styles that shaped Milwaukee's downtown during the 19th century, largely through German immigration. Walking past it, you can notice how it tries to fit into the older visual character of the surrounding streets rather than break from it.
The building stands along the Milwaukee River and can be reached on foot via the Riverwalk, a riverside path that runs along the water. Walking along the river gives you a clear view of the full facade, especially from the nearby bridge.
Although the building is among the tallest office towers in Wisconsin, its roof is topped with a cupola, an element rarely seen on modern office towers. This detail is clearly visible from the Riverwalk and sets the tower apart from the other buildings in the downtown skyline.
